Class of 1973
50 Years Strong
50th Reunion dim sum lunch at Hong Kong Country Club.
Fifty years ago, our Class of 1973 graduated from High School at HKIS and several schools around the globe. To celebrate that joyful event and our shared experiences at HKIS, 23 HKIS '73ers and nine brave family members gathered in Charleston, South Carolina’s Historic District on September 14-17, 2023. The long weekend was filled with a city tour, a boat ride to Fort Sumter where the Civil War began, a nighttime ghost tour, and a sunset dinner cruise.
Of course, we left plenty of time for catching up and reliving memories of our time together at HKIS. This was made easier by a hospitality suite at the Francis Marion Hotel and Charleston’s excellent restaurants. There was also a Zoom call that linked 15 classmates in Charleston with 10 others in Hong Kong, Brazil, and around the US. Everyone commented that the HKIS connection was remarkably strong despite the intervening years, even among classmates who attended HKIS at different times. A great time was had by all.
On October 23, 2023, a second installment of our class reunion was held in Hong Kong, with some classmates traveling from San Francisco and Taipei. Fourteen classmates and two family members participated in one or more reunion events. We began the day with a Zoom call that linked seven classmates in the US and Canada together with our HK participants. Then we toured what is now HKIS's Lower Primary and Upper Primary (our beloved "original" building) buildings in Repulse Bay. We were amazed at the cutting-edge facilities and the clear evidence of how HKIS primary students "learn to learn" today! At noon, we enjoyed a convivial dim sum lunch at the Hong Kong Country Club.
We all were uplifted by refreshing close friendships and appreciating that we are part of the unique community of learning that is HKIS.
Next stop, Vancouver, B.C. 2028!
