ALUMNI CONNECTIONS
A key focus of the Hong Kong Chapter of the HKIS Alumni Association is to connect current HKIS high school students to the school’s vast network of accomplished alumni, especially in the context of transitioning to university and career exploration. Hearing from alumni who used to sit in the same classrooms helps current students believe that they too have a whole world of options open to them.
This past year's Alumni Connections experiences included:
David Begbie '94 Addressed the High School
In 2007, HKIS Alum David Begbie '94, co-founder of Crossroads Foundation, was awarded the first ever Red Cross Hong Kong Humanity Award for the impact Crossroads has made on the city. This venerated Bob Christian Alumnus of the Year visited campus to share with the High School community about the important work of helping the poor. He inspired the students to light the way when there is darkness in the world.
Sunny Tan ‘94 Introduced Legislative Council Chambers to Grade 4
The Grade 4 Class had the privilege of meeting HKIS Alumni Sunny Tan '94 for a private tour of the Hong Kong Legislative Council building. It was a special opportunity for the students to get a behind the scenes look at the home of government in Hong Kong. Sunny is partnering with HKIS to share his expertise in science, technology, and government with current students.
Derek Kwik '86 Toured Hong Kong FinTech Conference with Students
For the second year in a row, HKIS Alum Derek Kwik ‘86, treated high schoolers to an insider tour of Hong Kong FinTech Week. This conference can feel overwhelming without an experienced guide, so it makes a huge difference to the students that Derek takes the time to attend it with them.
