HOMECOMING WEEK 2026

Tai Tam Day

Let us take you back to a vibrant morning on the Tai Tam campus during Homecoming Week.

The day began at the newly opened Dragon Center for Activities and Athletics (DCAA)—a stunning space that officially opened in January 2026—before moving into an engaging panel featuring Secondary Principals alongside Middle School and High School student ambassadors. Together, they shared honest glimpses into their daily routines and highlights, while also responding to audience questions—including how students are beginning to use AI in their learning and schoolwork.

A quieter moment in the morning came with the labyrinth walk, led by Mike Kersten—an experience that is part of students’ spiritual journey at HKIS, offering a space for reflection amidst a busy schedule.

From there, guests explored the campus in smaller groups, stepping into learning spaces and connecting directly with students and teachers. In Middle School, they encountered students immersed in drama and cooking classes—bringing everyday learning to life. In the High School, alumni enjoyed a coffee tasting led by Ms. Brown and her students, alongside a beautiful strings performance from Ms. Kubiak’s ensemble. Throughout the tour, what stood out most was the opportunity to interact with students—a powerful reminder of what makes HKIS so special today. A stop at the Dragon Shop—always a favorite for alumni and former faculty—added a fun and familiar touch along the way.

The morning wrapped up in the cafeteria—a space that now feels more like a modern food court. For many alumni, it was a reminder of how much has changed, with stories of ordering McDonald’s twice a week in the 70s and 80s sparking laughter, nostalgia, and easy conversations.

When curiosity is piqued, kids will connect and take control of their learning. Having choice and agency allows them to have a growth mindset, says Andrea.
