Community has long been a special characteristic of HKIS that makes our school what it is. We see this every day in the way our students interact with one another, forging bonds that they will carry with them for life. We see it in the passion our faculty brings to their teaching and professional lives, and we see it in the commitment of our many parent and alumni volunteers and donors, who add tremendous value to the school.
These ties that bind have never been more evident than this year, when the school community came together on more than one occasion to celebrate our shared heritage and values, while looking ahead to a bright future. The Community Day in November marked a major milestone for the school with the opening of the Dragon Center for Athletics & Activities (DCAA). In the spring, we came together again for the alumni and former faculty Homecoming Week and the Spring Celebration. As Homecoming honored the values and people that built HKIS, including the presence of our founder’s son Eric Mache, the DCAA stands as a testament to the success their vision made possible.
In the year of the school’s 60th Anniversary, we have the opportunity to reflect upon the school’s origin story and a rich history that has brought us to the present day. We can also consider how we wish to shape the years in front of us and the role that each of us plays in this journey.
This Impact Report chronicles the immense contribution made by our community to shaping HKIS. I am sincerely grateful to all of you that have gone above and beyond for the betterment of our school and hope that it inspires others to do the same too. Thank you!
