GENERAL UPDATES

Trish (Gilhooly) O’Neill ‘69

Hi All,

I was lucky enough to spend a week back in the city we knew and loved. It is looking quite good! A few changes from 1969 to be sure!

The quarantine regulations are far less arduous now as there is no mandatory hotel quarantine stay any longer. Yes, daily testing for a week, but a small price to pay for being back in this wonder city.

People are SO happy to see returning visitors.
I was in HK two weeks ago. Once the quarantine regs were lessened, I headed there to make certain our beloved city was still there. I had a wonderful time roaming the city. I had a lovely dinner at Claire Chao’s (class of ‘79 ) and her mother’s apt. Claire also lives in Hawaii.

I ate and ate at my favorite restaurants….The Chinnery Bar, Chili Fugara and discovered many more. I walked Bowen Path a few times, crossed on Star Ferry, all the Memory Lane bits and pieces.

I also spent over a week in Bangkok, then in Dubai and Baku on my way to Miami, where I am now with the family.

Busy, busy, busy. I became Grandma three more times, bringing my total grandchildren to 35. I am truly blessed. Frank and I had a chance to visit Mallorca, Spain for two weeks in June and have fun in Pigeon Forge, TN in September. Surgery has not been on my bucket list. However, I’ve had two total knee replacements and a total hip replacement, but they haven’t kept me off the pickleball court. I was back at it two weeks after my hip surgery and four weeks after each knee. Sewing is a huge part of my life. I made eight quilts, fun Halloween trick or treat bags and aprons, to name a few of my projects. I have a new passion. I participated in Wreaths Across America last year, by laying wreaths on veteran’s graves. I knew I wanted to do more, so I became a coordinator for Bear Lake County, Idaho, the area where I live. It has been a huge time commitment and I’m looking forward to December 17th, the day we lay the wreaths to honor our veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. As 2022 draws to a close, I’m thankful for many things and look forward to 2023.

Holiday Greetings from David ‘69 and Elizabeth Christian! We continue to do well, enjoying hiking in beautiful Washington state. Dad, (Bob Christian, first HKIS Head of School), although now in a wheelchair, is well and loves reminiscing about HKIS days looking through old scrapbooks! He will be 95 years young on December 13th.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our next reunion!

Elizabeth Petty ('99) married Michael Hall in Austin, TX on March 14, 2021. It was a joyous celebration that included many Chinese wedding elements as well. They reside in Round Rock, TX where Elizabeth is an IB PYP Coordinator at Chandler Oaks Elementary School in the Round Rock Independent School District and Michael is a manager at a local Chick-Fil-A restaurant.

DRAGONBABIES!

Kenneth King ‘04

Kenneth King (Class of '04) and wife Jessica Jann are ecstatic to welcome their first child and daughter Kylie Mila King, born December 2021, to the world. Kylie eats well and has shown a liking for music by dancing to different tunes. She just learnt to say "uh-oh" and also enjoyed her very first swimming lesson recently.

RETIREMENT

Barbara (Schwerdtmann) Easton ‘77

After 40 years in the Early Care and Education field, I retired (whoo hoo!) and my husband Ian and I moved from California to Scotland in 2020 where our daughter lives. We'll still be going back to SoCal through the year.
