Lower Primary Library Enhancements

The Annual Fund helped transform the Lower Primary Library into a more engaging and welcoming space for young learners. Support added new shelving, expanded Dual Language Immersion (DLI) book collections, and learning resources to serve a growing community of readers. The LP library team also brought a vibrant custom mural to life through a collaboration between the team, a local artist Erin Hung, and Facilities Management. Students participated in the creative process, making the library a colorful, inspiring environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

A Celebration of Stories: Grace Lin's Visit Brings Books to Life

Thanks to the support of the Annual Fund through the One School One Book initiative, award‑winning author and illustrator Grace Lin visited HKIS during Book Week, engaging Lower and Upper Primary students through interactive sessions that explored her books, creative process, and storytelling, culminating in a well‑attended Family Night celebrating reading, creativity, and the power of stories.

“At HKIS, we believe that fostering a love of reading and celebrating literacy enriches every aspect of our community. Grace Lin's visit embodied that belief perfectly—it reminded our students that authors and illustrators are real people with stories to tell, that creativity is a skill to be nurtured, and that books have the power to connect us across cultures and continents.”

Empowering Students to Restore Coral Ecosystems

The Tai Tam Bay Coral Nursery project empowered Secondary students to restore coral ecosystems through hands-on marine conservation. The project, piloted with support from PFO in its first year, expanded its reach thanks to the Annual Fund.

Students designed and created customized reef tiles using pH-neutral terracotta clay—innovative structures that support coral regrowth. With the help of marine scientists from HKU’s Swire Institute of Marine Science (SWIMS), the tiles were deployed at Tai Tam Bay, where students continue to track coral growth and monitor reef health over time.

Thanks to the Annual Fund, this meaningful initiative came to life—empowering our students to take action and become responsible stewards of our oceans while driving real environmental impact.

Innovative Learning

The Annual Fund refreshed virtual reality technology in Secondary classrooms, allowing students to experience immersive learning across a range of subjects. Through virtual reality, students explored the Anne Frank House, traveled inside the human body to study cells and body systems, and visited culturally significant sites across China, fostering creativity, exploration, and deeper learning.

“The VR learning experience last year was a nice way for us to engage in exploring China for our unit in a fun and engaging way. I think using VR made it more memorable and allowed us to immerse in the environment to be able to visualize it better.”
Leo Wang '31 in Grade 8

“I liked how we could "get out of the classroom" without actually stepping outside and have some fun. I really enjoyed it, and I hope we can do it again in the future.”
Elaine Jin '31 in Grade 8

“Patrick’s visit was a reminder that digital wellness isn’t just about screens—it’s about values, relationships, and the future we want for our kids.”
